CRTC orders an end to “ear-splitting ads”

A year from now you won’t have to reach for the remote to turn the volume on TV commercials thanks to an order by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commision that calls for an end to “ear-splitting ads.”

After getting more than 7,000 comments in response to a public consultation launched last February, the CRTC announced it is ordering broadcasters to control the volume of TV commercials by September 1, 2012.
